“We had seen the innovative changes Chris had brought to a friend's home nearby and hoped he could inspire us! His creativity was clear from the start, so we knew there was a chance he'd suggest something quite different from what we were expecting, and that was part of the appeal.
When Chris first visited our home, he took the time to really understand how we lived in the space - what we loved (the high ceilings, views, and family areas) and, importantly, what didn't work for us (temperature issues, damp, darkness, and wasted space). We could easily describe the problems, but we relied on Chris to bring everything together in a coherent, imaginative way, and he did just that.
Our project with Chris spanned a few years, beginning in 2019 and continuing through planning hurdles, conservation constraints, and the disruptions of the pandemic. Throughout it all, Chris maintained open, flexible communication, including site visits, video calls, and emails. He presented us with a range of thoughtful options at each stage and handled all planning correspondence, keeping us fully updated.
One moment that really stood out was when our first design iteration was rejected by planning. Instead of compromising, Chris confidently reimagined the project, moving beyond our original 'modest' brief to propose a bolder and more transformative reconfiguration and extension. The planners loved it, and it's turned out brilliantly. Even during construction, Chris continued to go above and beyond, suggesting minor refinements to tidy up complex details, such as simplifying where different roof lines met, which made a real difference to the finished result.
We're absolutely delighted with how everything has come together. We've already recommended Chris to others, with a friendly warning that you should be ready for him to come up with solutions you'd never have thought of yourself. That's exactly what makes working with him so rewarding.”
